Nissan brought the Z-car back in 2002 with the 350Z after a decade away from the sports car market. The VQ35DE V6 produced 287 hp in its original form, rear-wheel drive was standard, and the long hood short deck proportions echoed the original 240Z in a way that the intervening models had drifted away from. The Z33 platform became the basis for the Infiniti G35 coupe and was extensively developed by the tuning community - the VQ engine responds well to modification, the suspension geometry is well understood, and the chassis balance makes it a natural platform for track use and drift builds.
